Guardian Angel and Grace at Meals

The angel prayer and the grace before and after meals, short enough for a two year old.

The three short prayers a Catholic household says most often: to the guardian angel, and grace before and after eating.

When: At bedtime and at every meal.

Why: These are the prayers a child can hold before they can read. Said daily, they become the floor a whole life of prayer is built on.

To my guardian angel. Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Grace before meals. Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Grace after meals. We give thee thanks, almighty God, for all thy benefits, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
