First Holy Communion

At every Mass, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus. It still looks like bread, but it is really Jesus.

When we receive Holy Communion, Jesus comes to live in us, to make us strong and to make us more like him.

It is the most important thing we ever do at Mass, and Jesus has been waiting to give himself to us.

Fast from food and drink, except water and medicine, for one hour before Communion.

Practise receiving: hands, left over right, like a throne for Jesus, or on the tongue. Both are allowed.

Learn the prayers below, and practise the walk up and back.

A prayer before Communion. Jesus, I believe that you are really here. I love you, and I want you to come into my heart. Help me to receive you well. Amen.

A prayer after Communion. Jesus, thank you for coming to me. Stay with me always, and help me to love you and everyone around me. Amen.

Keep a quiet moment at home that evening to thank Jesus together.

Go to Mass the next Sunday together. The first Communion is the first of many.
