Have it blessed. It costs nothing and takes a minute.
Put it where it is at eye level for whoever is smallest in the house.
Catholics keep the body on the cross because the Mass is the same sacrifice made present, not a memory of one. A crucifix in a room is a standing argument against the idea that love is mainly a feeling.
Early Christians used the cross as a sign long before they depicted the body on it, partly because crucifixion was still a living punishment and the image was obscene.
The corpus appears widely from the sixth century on, and the Western Church has kept it deliberately, insisting on the wounds rather than a tidied symbol.
Free in the home. A crucifix on or near the altar is required at Mass itself.
